Official registration will enable the political parties compete in the federal elections.
The Registrar also called on the political parties to work together to ensure democratic elections are held in the country within the stipulated time frame. All the Chairpersons of the newly registered political parties spoke at the ceremony. They thanked the NIEC for their professionalism in assisting the parties to file for registration.
One of the party leaders stated that he was happy to have his party included in the long list of temporary registered parties, and that his party looks forward to ensuring the country moves from the divisive, clan-based power sharing formula to a more inclusive democratic electoral process for Somalia.
In his closing remarks, Commissioner Hussein Abdi Adan, noted that political parties are the only way to compete politically, and it is necessary for each party to open an office and maintain regular contact with the NIEC Political Parties Registrar’s Office.
