The National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC ) held information sharing meeting with civil society organizations.
The participants were drawn from civil society organizations in the country.
The meeting was meant to deliberate on the role of civil society in the upcoming elections
The NIEC chair gave an update of the Commission’s efforts to hold elections in the country, and to shift from the clan based election process to a multi-party system.
Members of the Civil society organizations commended the Commission for their work and requested the Commission’s support in disseminating information on their election role.
Ms.Ismail underscored the importance of working together stating that the electoral process is a collective responsibility that requires accountability to ensure credible elections.
civil society organization’s representatives thanked the Commission for the information sharing and pledged to play their role in advocating for the constitutional rights of citizens. Commission and civil society organizations are set to meet regularly for information sharing on the conduct of free and fair elections.
