NIEC ORGANIZES A WORKSHOP ON WOMEN PARTICIPATION IN POLITICAL PARTY LEADERSHIP

BAIDOA – 11TH NOVEMBER: NIEC ORGANIZES A WORKSHOP ON WOMEN PARTICIPATION IN POLITICAL PARTY LEADERSHIP FOR WOMEN AND YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS IN SOUTHWEST STATE

The National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC), carrying out its constitutional mandate, including informing and educating Somali voters about the 2020 electoral process, held a 2 days long training on women’s participation in political party leadership in Baidoa. The participants were from women and youth organizations as well as university students.
The training, which was preceded by a number of workshops held in Mogadishu, is aimed at raising the awareness of the Somali people in the role of women in political parties and the electoral process.
Participants were given information on topics ranging from the description of a national political party, the importance of political parties, how citizens can join their preferred party and how the NIEC works on achieving gender balance during the registration process of the political parties.
Participants were also given ample time to deliberate on the role of women in the parties, the obstacles they face and how they can overcome them.
The Commission, with the aim of having an informed electorate aware of its rights and obligations in the electoral process, will continue to educate and raise awareness among Somali voters.
