A Voter education and awareness seminar for women was held at Nasahablood hotel in Mogadishu on the 26th-27th February.
The participants were drawn from local women organizations and political parties. People with disabilities were also in attendance.
The two-day seminar was hosted by the electoral body’s public outreach and Voter education department. It’s aimed to focus on sensitization and exchange of experiences for identifying strategies aimed at strengthening and ensuring participation of women in the electoral process.
The two-day seminar was opened by the NIEC secretary general Mr. Abdirizak Bashir. He emphasized on the importance of women participating in the electoral process.
Commissioner Hussein, who also spoke at the event thanked the women participating in the Seminar and assured them of the commission’s commitment to engage women in the electoral process, in line with NIECs gender mainstreaming policy.
