Halima Ismail Ibrahim, for being nominated to the shortlist for the 2018 Chatham House Prize. Chairperson Halima was nominated for her work in the stewardship of the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) during Somalia’s presidential elections of 2016-2017 and for promoting multi-party democracy and the development of a roadmap for achieving one person one vote elections in 2020-2021 for the first time in nearly 50 decades.
This is critical steps for improving the quality of political governance in Somalia. For this years prize, Chairperson Halima, has been shortlisted alongside, the Committee to Protect Journalist; Dr. Mario Draghi, president of European Central Bank; and Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
