The National Independent Electoral Commission’s Chairperson Ms. Halima Ismail took part in a virtual meeting with international partners to discuss the impact of the COVID19 pandemic on the forthcoming elections.
In her remarks at the conference, Ms. Halima outlined the impact of COVID19 on Somalia’s preparations for the 2020/21 elections, as well as technical and financial support from international stakeholders to the Commission.
The meeting was organized by the United Nations Regional Development Program (UNDP).
Moreover, the participants of the conference discussed how Electoral Commission and other stakeholders can foster a working relationship and share experiences to create a system that enable elections to be held while protecting the health of the electorate.
