On 2nd December 2019, the Commissioners for the National Independent Election Commission (NIEC) held a joint meeting with the Special Representative of the
Secretary General Mr James Swan and Somalia international partners.
At the meeting, the Special Representative of the Secretary General Mr James Swan and the Somalia international Partners pledged the international community support for NIEC as a partner throughout the 2020/2021 election.
The Commissioners briefed the SRG and the donors on the NIEC progress towards the 2021/2021 election, thanking the international partners for their ongoing assistance to
the NIEC and appealed for their political and monetary support for advancing one-person one vote election.
The SRG and the donors expressed their commitment for working with the FGS, FMs, CSO and the NIEC to enhance the participation of IDP, and the marginalised groups in
the Somalia electoral process. The SRG and donors stressed the need for the Somali political actors at the levels of the FGS and FMS to play a responsible and constructive role to make elections 2020/2021 inclusive and credible.
