NIEC chair Ms. Halima Ismail held a meeting with Mogadishu mayor who is also the governor of Benadir region Hon. Omar Filish at the Commission’s offices in Mogadishu on the 16th October.
The two discussed the upcoming 2020 general elections and how the Commission and Benadir region administration can work together. They also deliberated on setting a regional election office in Benadir region.
The Mogadishu mayor praised the commission’s work and assured the electoral body of his administration’s firm commitment to help as they lay the ground for the upcoming 2020 One person one vote elections.
NIEC has so far opened offices in all FMS in an effort to streamline its operations.
