Two new political parties were issued with temporary registration certificates in Mogadishu on 12th September.
Those who graced the occasion are NIEC top brass officials, senior advisors, staff members and representatives of different political parties.
The two parties issued with interim registration certificates are Somali Patriotic Party (SPP) and National Democratic Party (NDP).
Officials of the two parties who spoke at the event praised their newly formed party’s achievement and stated that they will work towards ensuring their party gets official recognition to participate in the future elections.
In her remarks, NIEC chair Ms. Halima Ismail called on the political parties to work towards ensuring they get formal recognition as national parties who represents the interests of the citizenry and the country at large for the universal suffrage elections scheduled for 2020.
The two new registered political parties brings the total number of registered political parties to 56.
The registered political parties are required to fulfill the stipulated guidelines so as to be recognized officially as political parties who will participate in the forthcoming 2020 general elections.
