Electoral commission chair Halima Ismail took part in a meeting with election stakeholders to discuss upcoming election at the UN offices in Mogadishu on the 11th September.
The meeting was meant to discuss 2020 universal suffrage elections scheduled to take place in the country for the first time in fifty years.
Ms. Ismail gave an update of the electoral commission’s work as it gears up to conduct the forthcoming elections.
Ms. Ismail outlined the commission achievements and those yet to be achieved, stating that the commission is laying the ground to ensure a credible, free and fair elections takes place in the country.
The electoral commission is optimistic that the parliamentary ad hoc committee charged with reviewing the electoral law will complete its work in time and submit to Parliament so as to enable the commission carry out its work.
