Induction training workshop concludes

The training workshop for NIEC national and regional staffs concluded in Mogadishu on the 14th July.
The workshop, which began on 8th July, was meant to build the capacity of the new national and regional staffs and to familiarize them with their new roles.
The workshop was conducted by electoral experts from NIEC, IESG and Creative associates.
Different facilitation methodologies was used to ensure the participants better grasp the topics being discussed.
The participants were shown a video clip of former South African electoral chair Mr. Johan Kriegler talk about his experience of conducting South Africa’s first democratic elections in 1994 after the end of apartheid.
The participants were also introduced to important topics such as electoral dispute resolution, electoral legal frameworks, electoral laws formulation, capture of VR centers, Voter education and the electoral cycle which forms a broad spectrum in the electoral cycle (Voting/polling, Vote counting/tallying, announcing the winner and later evaluate the conduct of the elections.
In his closing remarks, the acting NIEC deputy Mr. Said Hashi Warsame called upon the participants to use the skills and knowledge they gained in the 7-day training to put to work. He underscored the importance of the country moving from the 4.5 clan based politics to a more inclusive, Democratic one person one vote in 2020.
