NIEC legal and policy development office held meeting with Parliamentary committee on Security and legal affairs

The National Independent Electoral Commission office of legal and policy development held a meeting with parliamentary committee on Security and internal affairs on the 7th July 2019.
The meeting was attended by NIEC commissioners Ms.Khadija Osoble Ali, Mr. Mohamed Dahir Mohamed and Said Hashi Warsame. Also in attendance were NIEC senior advisors on policy and legal affairs Mr. Ali Hared and Mustafa Hasan Maalim.
The Ministry of internal affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia submitted the draft electoral law to the house of the people on the 24th of march 2019. The speaker requested the parliamentary committee on Security and internal affairs to look into the legality of the draft electoral law before its presented to the floor of the house for debate.
The electoral commission, on the 24th March, formed a committee of legal experts to look into what repercussions the electoral law had on the existence of NIEC, an independent body formed by virtue of Article 111G of the constitution to conduct elections.
In the end, they all agreed to work together and ensure the electoral law reflects the common good of the citizenry.
