A two-day workshop on gender equality was held in Mogadishu on the 29th and the 30th of April 2019.
The workshop was conducted by Folke Bernadotte Academy which is based in Sando, Sweden.
FBA works on initiatives such as peace building, women, security, and development.
The workshop aimed to focus on strengthening gender representation in the electoral process.
Andreas Vexhull, the Swedish Ambassador to Somalia assured the electoral commission Sweden’s commitment to ensuring Somalia is able to achieve Universal Suffrage 2020.
Women parliamentarians from both the Senate and the House of the People attended the two-day workshop and took part in a panel discussion on the challenges they face and the opportunities a one person one vote can ensure inclusivity.
In closing remarks, NIEC Chair, Ms. Halima Ismail Ibrahim, thanked Folke Bernadotte for organizing the workshop and assured the Gender analysis tools and information learned will be applied through the Commission.
