Electoral body’s chair Ms. Halima Ismail oversaw the opening of Jubaland election office in Kismayo, the capital of Jubaland state.
The chair was accompanied by commissioner Khadija Osoble, Mohamed Dahir, Mohamed Nur and several staff members. Also present were senior Jubaland state officials.
Commenting on the new office opening, the chair thanked the Jubaland administration for their warm reception and their support towards allocating a new office space for the commission. She was categorical that the new office will strengthen partnership with Jubaland state as the commission gears to hold a one person one vote in 2020.
The NIEC delegation also took part in the interviewing of the already shortlisted applicants who applied for the new office jobs. The chair praised the newly recruited Jubaland election office employees as competent and having fulfilled the requirements that befits their roles.
NIEC has so far opened regional election offices in all the federal member states. They are South west state, Puntland, Hirshabele, Galmudug and Jubaland. This will strengthen the commission’s ability to partner with FMS as they look forward to roll out voter registration and civic awareness campaigns.
