Electoral commission holds meeting with Political Parties representatives

The National Independent Electoral Commission held discussions with political parties, which are currently temporarily registered, in a round table meeting in Mogadishu.
The meeting was chaired by the electoral commission chairperson Ms. Halima Ismail.
Ms. Ismail stressed on the importance of holding consultations with Political parties and emphasized on the need to engage and update them on the electoral body’s day to day work.
She noted the crucial role political parties play in the electoral process by serving as a conduit between the citizenry and the government.


She praised the electoral body’s achievements even though constraints and challenges still remained. She indicated that crucial laws need to be enacted as the country gears to hold a one man one vote in 2020.
Ms. Khadija Osoble, a commissioner with the electoral body, who spoke at the meeting mentioned to the political parties representatives that the electoral body had conducted a feasibility study on the best Voter registration system to adopt for the elections.
The acting registrar of political parties Mr. Mohammed Sandheere, who spoke at the meeting stated the importance of having such consultations as vital.
The political parties and the electoral body agreed to work together for the best interest of the country.
