Electoral body holds meeting with Prime minister Kheyre

The National Independent Electoral Commission chairperson Ms. Halima Ismail led a delegation comprising of several commissioners and the head of the Secretariat, to the Prime minister’s office.
The meeting was meant to take stock of what the Commission has accomplished, what is due to be completed and what challenges or constraints exists or are anticipated.
The prime minister was briefed by the Chair of the commission’s achievements since it’s inception.
They discussed the electoral body’s 2019 work plan. The Commission stressed on the importance of having crucial laws enacted to pave way for 2020 elections. The electoral law and review of the political parties act are the most vital legislation to be passed once Parliament resumes.


The Commission’s budget was also discussed. So as to enable them conduct Voter education awareness and sensitization, Voter registration and open regional offices, budgetary funding is crucial.
Security for the elections was also discussed with the establishment of the electoral security taskforce on the agenda.
The Prime minister took note of the commission’s accomplishments. He thanked the electoral body for their clear laid out plan towards ensuring the country gets ready for elections in time.
He assured them of his government’s sincere commitment in the electoral process and helping the electoral body achieve its goal of conducting a universal suffrage elections in 2020.
