Mr. Abdirahman Osman Aden, NIEC Commissioner, led a political parties monitoring exercise together with Political Parties Registration Officer Mr. Mahamed Mahamud Hassan (Sandhere) and the Mr. Abdinasir Mohamed Hirsi, Director of the Legal Department.
The Monitoring exercise of the 35 temporary political parties commenced on 6th Jan 2019 and was completed on 13th Jan 2019. The areas which the monitoring team focused on included the legal documents required from political parties, the party work plan, party financial management as well as the procedures for the appointment and dismissal of party officials.
Although parties did not meet all the requirements, they gained skills from the monitoring exercise. Parties are expected to work on the areas that need improvement highlighted by the NIEC.
Finally, NIEC monitoring exercise team advised parties to meet all the requirements of the law, in order for them to become permanent registered parties that can participate in the 2020 general elections.
After the monitoring exercise, Office of NIEC for Registration of political parties will prepare a Comprehensive Report, to indicate all gaps and way forwards that empower parties to lead Somalia multi-party Election.
