The National Independent Electoral Commission met with the leadership of the House of the People, led by speaker Mohamed Mursal to brief them about the commission’s activities and plans. The meeting was also attended by the Permanent Committees of the lower house of the parliament and the two deputy speakers of the house.
The meeting was organized for the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) to report on the activities of the Commission of the past months 4 months. The commission delegation also presented the report of the public consultations of the 2020 electoral process together with recommendations of the Somali people. The leadership of the house of the people of the Federal Parliament were also given the report of the voter registration feasibility study carried out by the NIEC.
NIEC chair Mss. Halima Ismail Ibrahim thanked the speaker of the house for the opportunity he gave the commission to present their reports and their plans. In her remarks, madam chair also reminded the house leadership the limited timetable of the elections and the need to put in place the prerequisites of the elections like completion of the necessary legal framework, election funding and construction of the NIEC HQ premises in Mogadishu.
