A delegation from the National Independent Electoral Commission

consisting of the chair Halima and members of the board of commissioners including Said Hashi, Mohamed Dahir and Hussein Abdi as well as the commission’s secretariat reached the town of Dhusamareb in Galmudug state on 12th April 2018.
The delegation went to Dhusamareb town to conduct a by-election to fill one of the vacant seats from the lower house of the parliament (the house of the people).
At the airport the delegation was received by the region and district administrators as well as community leaders.
In his welcoming remarks, the commissioner of Dhusamereb district Mr. Muallim Nur Ilmi Abdulle reassured the commission that the district is secure enough for the NIEC to conduct the by-election. The traditional leader of the delegates that will elect the MP on Sunday the 15th April was also present at the welcoming event.
The chair of NIEC Mss. Halima Ismail explained briefly the commission’s arrival in Dhusamareb. She stated that the commission came to Dhusamerb to conduct an election to fill a vacant seat from the house of the people whose election constituency is from Galmudug state. She continued that the commission received an invitation from the president of Galmudug state to conduct the by-election.
NIEC also recently conducted by-election of MPs of the lower house from different clans. These by-elections filled seats from Hawadle (Ali Madah-weyne) from Hirshabelle state, Hubeer clan from Jubbaland state and a seat from Gedabiirsi (Habar-Arfan) from Somaliland who was elected in Mogadishu.
