The National Independent Electoral Commission today launched a consultation meeting in Hudur town of Bakool region. The commission met with youth representatives in the area. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss with the youth the 2020 election process.
The youth were addressed by the chairperson of the electoral commission Mrs. Halima Ismail. In her address she emphasized to the youth the significance and relevance of elections for the citizens. In addition, the chairperson also gave a brief history about elections in Somalia. Mrs. Halima also explained to the youth the elections as per the constitution of Somalia. On his side, the deputy mayor of Hudur town Mr. Abdullahi Mohamed Nur described the electoral commission’s visit to his town as a victory for the people of Hudur. He also talked about how valuable a one man one vote election is for the county. It is the only way in which people can get leaders who will look after the interest of the general public. The acting governor of Bakool region in his speech stressed the importance of the participation of the disabled members of the society in the electoral process. The youth participants who were delighted to receive the commission and the information they provided asked the chairperson some questions about the elections. Mr. Abdirizaq Bashir, who is the knowledge advisor of the commission gave the youth a detailed explanation about the elections. In his remarks he presented and discussed the eight pillars of the electoral process. The consulation meeting was concluded after the views of the youth regarding 2020 elections were collected.The NIEC team that visited Hudur were happy about the incredible and the beautiful way in which the people of Hudur received them. The level of understanding of the participants of the consultative meeting was also highly appreciated by the leadership of the commission. The appetite of people of Hudur for elections was also excellent.
