Reaching out to regional and international electoral management organizations has been one of the objectives of Somalia's National Independent Elections Commission (NIEC) since it was created one year ago.

Somalia's NIEC has recently been accepted as one of the members of the Arab Electoral Management Bodies' (EMB) Organization which is based in Amman, Jordan. The NIEC applied for permanent membership following a human rights workshop and a training earlier this year on how to enhance women's participation in elections held in Jordan.
"Joining the Arab EMBs will provide Somalia's NIEC with opportunities to become familiar with international best practices and to share technical experiences, as well as engage in specialized trainings," said Halima Ismail Ibrahim, the Chairperson of the NIEC.
